Birthstone jewelry can definitely be cheesy. Which was okay when you’re a kid and you’re just so damn proud to flaunt the cool new opal ring your mom and dad bought you it doesn’t matter if it’s tacky(this is totally hypothetical). Looking back, however, things like gold teddy bear earrings with emerald eyes or an angel pendant with a triangle-shaped diamond for a body don’t seem so cool. Luckily, there are a few jewelry designers today who have managed to make birthstones cool in 2010 so you can once again be proud to celebrate you!
The new designs incorporate raw and unfinished stones into the mix and set them in original ways. No more cheesy animal shapes (with the exception of one very cool peacock ring) or blinding gold-plated settings.
And there are certainly no angels with gemstone bellies here.
And you don’t have to be a millionaire to get your hands on this jewelry. Check out the multi-stone birthstone rings from Melinda Maria that only cost $64. Fans of the designer’s affordable jewels include Zoe Saldana and Emma Stone. November babies can pick up a chunky citrine pendant at Snooze Loser for $25.
