Farrah Fawcett, 70′s style icon, passed away last year at 62 after a hard fought battle with cancer.  Her memory is being honored today as her friend, Alana Stewart, officially opens the doors of the Farrah Fawcett Foundation in Beverly Hills.

Fawcett launched the foundation the year before her death. It’s focus is funding research into alternative cancer treatments, particularly for pediatric and anal cancers.

“I’ll get very teary and miss her, but I feel her spirit is so strong,” Stewart told “Entertainment Tonight.” “I feel like she went to a place where she’s free, she’s happy, and I feel she’s looking over all of us.”

Even if you’ve never seen “Charlie’s Angels” or even Fawcett herself, you’re probably familiar with her signature style.  In fact, the words “signature style” are a bit of an understatement for Fawcett’s iconic look.  Fawcett’s feathered locks and curve hugging looks in “Charlie’s Angels” defined the face of a generation’s style, and they resurface at regular intervals (see the mid-to-late 1990′s).

Fawcett is all the more remarkable for having maintained the spirit of her look while evolving with the passing of fashions and aging gracefully.  At age 60, the actress had a shorter, more contained hair and wore darker colors, but there’s a clear, direct line from the young woman who was the 1970′s favorite pin-up to the sleeker, older Fawcett.
