Summertime means lot of things but to me it mainly means heat, humidity, constant bad hair days and my hair color fading much faster than usual. There are a lot of different ways to protect your hair in the hot summer months from sun, humidity or chlorine to keep your tresses looking and feeling their best.

Spray-in Sunscreen:

A lot of companies make specially formulated spray in sunscreens that will protect your hair from the elements. Spray in sunscreens can make your hair a little greasy, especially if you heavy handed with products but are worth it if you color your hair. The sun is the number one culprit when it comes to fading hair color so if you planning on spending the day at the beach make sure you protect that color.

Oscar Blandi Capri Sun-Shield is one that seems to be less greasy than others and my favorite hair sunscreen is Rene Furterer Protective Summer Oil. This particular one is a little greasier than others so I recommend the Furterer for thicker, drier hair or curly hair.

For Chlorine Protection:

A generous coating of leave in or regular conditioner works well against chlorine and sea water but it needs to be reapplied every time you get in the water. Blonde’s, this will also prevent your hair from turning green in pool water. Speaking of green hair, if it’s already green there is a great product out there called Colorful Green Out that gets rid of the tint quickly without drying out your hair. Well, no more than chlorine will.

Cover Up Your Head:

This one is kind of a no-brainer, and that’s cover up your hair when you are in the sun, avoid getting it wet and deep condition at least once a week. This method is my favorite cause it lets me go shopping for cute hats!
