The list of celebrities getting short haircuts just got a little bit longer. You can now add Janet Jackson to the list of famous females getting close crops. A list that already includes Hayden Panettiere, Jessica Stroup, Carey Mulligan and the recently-added Michelle Williams (who’s no stranger to a pixie cut).
Of course, stars have chopped off their beloved long locks once or twice in the past. Most famous of all was Mia Farrow’s pixie cut done for the film “Rosemary’s Baby” in 1968. Photographers snapped away as Vidal Sassoon cut. Then there was Keri Russell’s disastrous decision to chop off her long curly hair for a wavy crop. That didn’t go so well and “Felicity” fans revolted. Plus, there’s been Halle Berry, Demi Moore, Winona Ryder, Natalie Portman and Keira Knightly who’ve all had pixie hair.
But now it seems like a runaway hair train that’s been picking up steam over the past year, with one lady after the another cutting it all off. I’d like to think that it was Ginnifer Goodwin that started the recent hair-chopping phenomenon last fall when she chopped off her gorgeous long brown hair. And Carey Mulligan has certainly been the picture of pixie perfection since wowing American audiences in “An Education” (even if she had long hair in the film). Now, with Ms. Jackson looking sexy with a close crop, you have to wonder, who’s next?
